RACING THROUGH THIS SPRING

Nov 30, 2019

Spring this year started in the worst fashion anyone could imagine, we lost our beautiful and talented apprentice Mikaela Claridge in a riding accident. It is at this time you question whether you want to continue in this industry we love. With the help of our base staff, who were outstanding through this ordeal we got through it, but I doubt anyone of us will ever completely get over it.  Racing Victoria were outstanding with their support through this difficult time with us and Mikaela's family.

Racing through this spring, the stable achieved outstanding results for a small stable.( we may have a angel looking over us)

It started with Soul Patch being placed at Sandown, then winning at Flemington, that took him into the Caulfield Guineas. Not everything went to plan in that race, but we learnt from it, and applied blinkers and he went on to win the Group 2 Vase at Moonee Valley. Continuing on and being placed in the group 1 VRC Derby. He is now enjoying a well deserved rest before returning for the Autumn. Spanish Reef started spring a little plain, but went on to win at group 3 level and placed in the group 1 Empire Rose Stakes. She also is enjoying a break before being aimed at the Autumn for her final campaign. Presently won at the start of spring, which gave us great confidence to aim at the VRC Oaks, after a couple of plain runs ( with excuses) she took part in the Oaks, running a credible 7th. She to is now having a break before returning to be aimed at the SA carnival in May Oaks 2500m.  Then on the weekend to finalise our spring results, we won the Listed Kilmore Cup with stable favourite Al Passem. A great result after some unlucky runs.

These results over spring from a small (in numbers) stable, do show to our owners, the stable can achieve results at the highest level. It will give confidence with the new group of horses that we will be looking to secure over the next few months, at the yearling sales. Anyone who has a interest in being involved in any of our new additions. Please call Ken or Kasey to express your interest. Good Luck to everyone over the summer months and I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Christmas.

Regards,

Ken.
